Dominion: Our Birthright in Jesus Christ

Genesis 1:26 establishes the original setup: God made man in His image, and with that image came Dominion. It wasn’t just a job description; it was a birthright. Because Adam looked like the King, he had the authority to rule like the King. But when Adam fell, he didn’t just lose his home; he surrendered his crown.

In Luke 4:6, the devil arrogantly tells Jesus that the authority of the world had been “delivered”
to him. Adam had handed over the title deed of the earth, and for ages, the enemy
ruled with stolen power. Colossians 2:15 tells us the glorious news of the retrieval. At the Cross, Jesus didn’t just defeat the enemy; He disarmed him and made a public spectacle of him. He walked into the enemy’s camp and took back the keys of authority that Adam had lost.

But here is the genius of God: Jesus didn’t just hand the dominion back to independent humans, where we could easily lose it again like Adam did. Instead, Jesus kept the Dominion in Himself. This is the ultimate security feature. We don’t possess authority as a loose object in our pockets; we possess it because we are in Christ. When you accept Him, you step into the One who holds the keys.

This means the devil can never steal your dominion again. To get to your authority, he would have to defeat Jesus first—and he already tried that and lost. Your power is safe because it is no longer based on your performance; it is based on your position.

As long as you remain in Him, you rule with Him.
