The Habit of Prayer: when prayer becomes a lifestyle

1 Thes 5:17

Pray without ceasing.

What has ceased has failed to continue. When something ceases, it no longer continues

Prayer is not just a weapon we wield when the enemy attacks; it is the fuel that keeps the new creature going.

When we pray, we keep the line of communication open with God. Prayer does for our spirit what food does for our bodies. If we do not pray, our spirits will be malnourished.

If we then, concerned for our bodies, try our best, to keep it nourished, should we not, even moreso, keep our spirit nourished and well fed?

Paul teaches the Thessalonians that, prayer should be our habit; a constant daily dose, with which we feed our spirits.

Now, he doesn’t need to tell us why it is important to pray at all times. But if we still need more convincing, let us understand why prayer is important anyway

– When we pray, we surrender first, to God, and then, to His will. In the place of prayer, we bring our will to God in submission and rely on His wisdom to carry us through.

– Prayer changes us: the more we pray, the more we are transformed. We become more receptive to the voice of God and to His counsel, we listen more and follow as He leads.

– Prayer helps us stay alert in the Spirit. We know that, this world is spiritual, before it is natural. What we see with our eyes comes from a place we do not see with our naked eyes. Prayer is the light that makes the spiritual, visible and clear to us.

– Lastly, prayer is an open line of communication with God. Remember, this communication was cut in the Garden of Eden when man sinned but in Christ Jesus, it was restored. Teaching us to pray was one of the ways Jesus taught us to stay connected to God.

It is the Father’s will for us to pray without ceasing. When we pray, we give God room and access to move in our situation.

God has given to each man his will and the ability to choose. To pray without ceasing is to make a choice to maintain a prayer life; to make prayer a habit.

There are many more reasons why we must pray without ceasing but we know more than anything, that prayer works and the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous availeth much.

So, pray without ceasing!

Pray in the morning!

Pray in the afternoon!

Pray in the evening!

Pray in secret! Pray in the open!

Pray at all times

By all means, pray!!!
